Welcome and enjoy the ride as we share with you our favorite Hidden Mickeys.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the phrase “Hidden Mickey”, I'll let you in on it. Everyone else, bear with me or skip this part.A "Hidden Mickey" is a Mickey Mouse shape that has been discreetly placed throughout the Disney Parks, Resorts, Disney Cruise Line and movies by clever Imagineers, Crew Members and Cast Members.
Hidden Mickey's come in many forms and are made of many different materials. They can be a complete Mickey Mouse profiles (I never seem to find these) or classic outlines of his head and ears. They are a lot of fun to look!--
Our family has been hooked on hunting Hidden Mickey's since the early 90's.
I first started hunting for them when I was part of a great online discussion group called Rec.Arts.Disney.Parks or RADP. We would discuss Hidden Mickeys and their location in the group and then go try to find them in the parks. I enjoyed it as an extra magical diversion for my then very young son, while standing in lines waiting for attractions or rides. Sometimes I'd bring a list to refer to. Most times we'd wing it and just try to discover them ourselves. After the trip we'd confirm our sightings or report new ones to the group.
My favorite and the most exciting discovery was my sons first Hidden Mickey sighting. We were staying at The Contemporary Resort at the time which is filled with Hidden Mickeys. He loved the idea of hunting for these magical treasures. He still enjoys it and points them out to me.
Everyone around could here his squeals of delight. For the rest of the day he told the monorail drivers and any Cast Members who would listen, that he had discovered a Hidden Mickey.
My son's Hidden Mickey has been documented here on a website that kept track of sightings for many years. It's listed in The Contemporary Resort section.
Over the years we've also contributed our sightings to Steve Barrett's ~ Hidden Mickeys: A Field Guide to Walt Disney World's Best Kept Secrets
books and website www.HiddenMickeysGuide.com. He's very kind in mentioning contributors names in each of his books and on the website. So, if you find a new one be sure to report your sighting!
Do you have a favorite Hidden Mickey? We'd love to hear about it!
